My link Building Experiment

Friday, December 5th, 2008

I’ve recently learned a little trick to getting some good strong links.
I haven’t done any link building on this site as you will see in the image below so I figured this site would be perfect for the experiment.

this site is also good for that because quite frankly, I don’t really care too much about this sites ranking in the search engines since it’s not really monetized.

Anyway, Here is the current status of my site. I’ve cut it down to just the stuff I’ll be working on. If you have the SEO for FireFox Extension you can look it up yourself so you know I’m not making it up.

So here are my current linksaccording to the plugin.

Pretty pathetic huh? ;)
What I’m going to be concentrating on are the coveted edu and gov links. Some people don’t think they really mean a whole lot, I don’t know, I guess that’s up for debate. The reason I want to work on those is the challenge I suppose.

Basically that’s about as far as I’m going to go here. If I don’t fail miserably, I’ll give a more detailed description of how I’m doing it… maybe. ;) It’ll probably be a few days for the links to show up if they do at all. It will just be a few but I’m only trying to see if it works, not build a million links.

So check back soon for the results.

New Site Update

Saturday, November 8th, 2008

Although I don’t have a lot to report, I thought I’d post an update on my new Pajamas affiliate site. As I said before, I started with one of my wordpress affiliate themes. I’ve spent the las tfew days picking colors and working on the graphics for the home page. Most all other images will be provided by the merchants so I don’t have to worry about those. The links obviously don’t work yet as I really have no data other than a few test posts.

I also got the product pages updated to use custom field instead of the excerpt so that will make it a little easier when I finally get around to uploading all of the product catalogs.

I think for the most part I’m done with the design, with the exception of some small details. Now it’s time to go searching through all of my merchants to see who has the stuff I’m looking for.

I think it’s turned out pretty nice so far but if you have any suggestions I’d be happy to hear them. I’m hoping to launch it by the end of the month. Then I can start my link building promoting etc..

Thanks for reading. Now go buy something on my Coupon Codes site. ;)

Off-Line Advertising for Affiliate Marketing

Sunday, August 24th, 2008

Affilate Mrketing While I’m sure just about everyone has see those Singles ads on the exit ramps and on the curbs of busy streets (I believe that company has been sued a million times), I’m wondering where others have seen off line advertising for affiliate sites.

Maybe you’ve heard the commercials for freethinlaptop, seen the diet offers in the classifieds or that stupid crazy like a fox commercial, but where else? We were on the “El”/”L” yesterday on our way to the Cubs game when I spotted the ad pictured. Not sure what the cost of that could be or how effective it is…

Well that’s pretty much it not much of a post just thought it was interesting.

Google taking Account Managers away from Affiliates?

Thursday, March 27th, 2008

google adwordsOn one of the forums I frequent I came across this post. Apparently Google is taking away account managers from affiliates.

While I certainly don’t spend enough to warrant one anyway, It’s still a little disturbing to me. With the “leaked” ranking guide and now this, it seems Google really has it in for affiliates.

Here is the gist of the post…

“This afternoon I got a rather disturbing phone call from my team manager at Google. As from April the 1st Google is changing their Account manager policies, and affiliates are not longer entitled to an account manager. Google is pulling back their account managers from all affiliate accounts. Doesn’t matter if you do direct linking or through comparison.

My team was in Dublin (Ireland) and I am spending about 20k USD a day.”

I don’t really use AdWords all that much. I spend a little but that’s it. It’s just a little scary to think that the Google has declared war on affiliates.

Guess it’s time to start concentrating on Yahoo!

Wordpress Affiliate Shop Number 3

Thursday, March 6th, 2008

Wordpress Affiliate ShopI’ve created yet another in my series of wordpress affiliate shops. I’m not quite sure why I chose flowers for this theme. I don’t promote any flower programs, Of course I don’t promote any tech merchandise either for my other shop. It’s just what came to mind as I was doing it.

This one looks fine so far in IE7 and Firefox but is a little off kilter in IE6. I’m not sure why at this point, It valiated just fine, at least until I add the content but regardless, I’ll fix that later.

It’s done the same as my other two where optional excerpts are used for the product listings and full posts for the descriptions and buy now links. This one only has one category and a few products just to give an idea of how it looks. I’d rather spend my time working on functionality than loading it with product information that means nothing to me.

This one is not widget ready so it’s a little more work, not much, but a little. Maybe I’ll fix that too. Eventually these will all get their own page here, probably after I get the other two I’m working on up and running. Now I just need to figure out what it is I want to use them for.
