My wordpress Affiliate Shop

I’ve seen a lot of the affiliate blogs post about how wordpress is a must have for affiliates. And while I agree, the lack of actual “Storefront” templates for wordpress is a downside.

I see a lot of affiliate sites that just pick a template and go with it. Although that may work for them I always hated how they still looked Blog-like. So with that I went on a hunt for something to use for my site. I’ve used Joomla and OSCommerce in the past and while they’re nice and all, they a big PITA to use…at least in my opinion. OScommerce doesn’t even really offer an option to use it as an affiliate shop, at least that I was able to find. So I gave up on those.

My search for a decent wordpress template didn’t really yield any better results so I was left with one choice… To make my own! So here it is, you can see the working site at dogsrule.us. I’m still adding products to the site and may make a few tweaks to the design here and there but it otherwise complete. Somehow over the last week, I’ also gained a PR2 on the site, with Zero back links. People say PR doesn’t really mean anything but it’s still cool as far as I’m concerned.

I think it turned out pretty nice, actually. It uses the “Optional Excerpt” for the product pages and the ” Details” link leads to the full post. While I am using a data feed to supply my links they are still all entered manually. Although I have automated the process a little by importing the feeds into an access database, concatenating the fields and adding some html tags to them. Then it’s just a matter of three copy and pastes for each product. Maybe I’ll make another post out of that process someday.
I ‘ve only been adding about 40 or 50 products a day as I don’t want to get spanked for spamming or anything. With the system I’ve come up with, Once I get rolling, I can add 40 or 50 products in about 20 minutes. My feed contains 6000+ but I haven’t decided yet how many I’m going to post. Maybe all of them, eventually.
