Ok Affiliate Managers, Tell me what to do!

Tuesday, March 18th, 2008

I seem to have this constant problem, especially with Linkshare programs..

“We regret to inform you that [insert program here] has chosen not to accept you into their affiliate program at this time. The reason for this decision may be as follows:

* Inability to access Web site
* Web site not yet live
* Inappropriate material on site

Please feel free to re-apply with [insert program here] whenever you feel you have been able to address the concern(s) listed above.”

First of all, My site IS accessible & live, and there isn’t a stitch of “Inappropriate material” on it. This is a problem I run into a lot with different Affiliate programs. I have a lot of sites.  I’ve added a lot of site since joining most of these programs so the the site listed as my primary site, may not be the one intended for their offers.

Wordpress Affiliate Shop Number 3

Thursday, March 6th, 2008

Wordpress Affiliate ShopI’ve created yet another in my series of wordpress affiliate shops. I’m not quite sure why I chose flowers for this theme. I don’t promote any flower programs, Of course I don’t promote any tech merchandise either for my other shop. It’s just what came to mind as I was doing it.

This one looks fine so far in IE7 and Firefox but is a little off kilter in IE6. I’m not sure why at this point, It valiated just fine, at least until I add the content but regardless, I’ll fix that later.

It’s done the same as my other two where optional excerpts are used for the product listings and full posts for the descriptions and buy now links. This one only has one category and a few products just to give an idea of how it looks. I’d rather spend my time working on functionality than loading it with product information that means nothing to me.

This one is not widget ready so it’s a little more work, not much, but a little. Maybe I’ll fix that too. Eventually these will all get their own page here, probably after I get the other two I’m working on up and running. Now I just need to figure out what it is I want to use them for.

Here is the link again Wordpress Affiliate shop 3

Google Analytics incorrectly reporting visitors.

Monday, March 3rd, 2008

I’ve been searching for answers on this and it seems an old problem but I haven’t really given much attention to analytics until recently. I have yet to find any evidence other than the fact that Google Analytics seriously under reports traffic and haven’t found any resolution as of yet. Maybe I missed something.

Below are the comparisons from two of my sites. There is a HUGE difference in numbers as you can see. And yes, I accounted for bot traffic here as well. My affiliate stats would also beg to differ. On the site showing no traffic on GA, my affiliate links show 400+ click throughs…

Wordpress Affiliate Shop

Friday, February 29th, 2008

Wordpress Affiliate ShopSo I’ve made myself another Wordpress Affiliate Shop. This is my second one besides the one I use at dogsrule.us. It is a modified free theme as opposed to the other witch is pretty much custom. It’s probably a pretty ugly hack but it works and looks nice, I think.

Wordpress is so easy to use it should be a staple for any affiliate. Again, this one just uses the “Optional Excerpts” for the products and the full post is used for the detailed description of each. I also used the folding categories plugin widget for the menu.
Gives it a more professional look I think.

All of the content is just newegg items that I’m using for demo purposes. There are no aff links. In fact, most of the links probably don’t work. It’s pretty easily customizable too which is nice if you wanted to use it for something other than tech.

550 Free Directories PR3 - PR8

Tuesday, February 26th, 2008

Submitting your website to directories can increase traffic to your website and give you better exposure in search engines. It will help raise your search engine rankings and natural search engine traffic can increase significantly. This is due in part, to several or even hundreds of websites linking to yours. Below is a list of 550 free Directories. The more you can submit too the better. You could always hire a submission service to do it for you too. Me, I’m too cheap.

I just submit to 10 or 20 a day and before you know it, you’ve submitted to hundreds or even thousands. One thing I would do is set up an email address just for this purpose.
I have one I set up on one of my hosting packages, it’s simply submissions@someemail.com. That way any request for verification or any garbage that sometimes comes submitting goes there. It’s all in one place and doesn’t clog up my important email inboxes.

Of course, there’s no guarantee your site will be accepted into every directory. So the more you submit, the better.

So on to the list…
