WTF Hostgator?

Friday, June 20th, 2008

HostGatorIt’s been a while since I’ve posted but I took some time off so thats why.

Anyway, I finally signed up for Hostgator today and I gotta say… So far I’m not that impressed. Actually, I’m quite irritated. I got all my confirmation emails and access information and everything but thats apparently not enough.

I get another email a few minutes later. Apparently, because my IP address is is located more than 900 miles from their servers, I needed to call and verify my account.

So I spend 20 minutes on the phone and am told that my original payment will be refunded and I will be charged again. So I log into their billing system and my initial payment shows up as possible “fraud, WTF?

Now they say that payment has been credited. Somehow I doubt that and I’m guessing I’ll be on the phone with them again because they’ve double billed me. They also told me I would need to call my credit card company to verify the refund.

I’ve been a customer of theirs for about an hour and have spent 40 minutes of that hour on the phone with them trying to resolve issues. Not a great way to start a business relationship.

I’m only pointing one of my domains to this host. I have 8 more but I think I’ll wait. I’n my 5+ years with 1 & 1 I think I’ve needed to call them twice and once was to get a backup because I screwed something up.

Just getting signed up has been a hassle so I’m not holding out much hope but who knows. I’ll give them a week, If I have to call again, I’ll cancel.

$0.99 .info domains at 1 & 1

Sunday, May 11th, 2008

1&1 has a deal going on .info domains.
I personally don’t use any but I know a lot of people who do. I don’t really have a whole lot more to say about, just pointing it out for anyone who may be looking for .info domains at a gret price.

You can check for domain availability below or just go directly to the 1&1 site.
Enjoy! :)

Switching Hosting Companies

Thursday, May 8th, 2008

HostGatorWell I haven’t been posting much. Not that it matters really, I only have 2 readers and one of them is me. ;)

Anyway, I know I’ve blogged about how happy I’ve been with 1and1 in the past and it’s still a true statement. Other than the fact that their email support is pretty slow, (I’ve onle needed it once or twice in 4 years) they’ve been rock solid for me. Regardless, I’ll be switching the hosting portion over to Hostgator

The reason I’m switching is strictly a financial decision. I currently have two “Business” packages with 1&1 at $10 a month each. With Hostgator I can reduce that down to one package for 14.95 a month for all my domains with Unlimited bandwidth, which the 1and1 packages don’t offer.

Although I’ll be keeping my domains with 1and1 , just my hosting is moving. I think Hostgator’s sign up page is a little mis-leading. Yes it’s $12.95 per month, but only if you pay for 3 years up front at $466.00. And their domain registration is a little pricey… $15.00 as oppsed to$6.99 with 1and1. Plus they offer free anonymous registration which is nice.

The whole thing that got me even thinking about switching was this HostGator Review on Lord Brar’s Domain Tips blog.
Now I don’t by any means think that I’ve been ripped of by 1and1. I see all the haters posting everywhere about how they suck but my experience with them has been good. It’s all about the money.

So wish me luck! I’m on vacation next week so that’s when it happens. Hopefully it won’t be too painful a transition…

BannerI got this email from my Hosting Company 1&1 the other day. Now I don’t monitor them every second of every day but can honestly say that in the 4 years I’ve been using them I have not seen any down time on my sites.

In the multitude of forums I browse every day I see a lot of people asking which host they should use or where they can get cheap hosting. well you can get it at 1&1 !
I have two hosting packages with them and they offer a ton of tools you can use for your site. My favorite is the integrated Google Web Master Tools. I’ve run just about every blog and CMS system on their servers with no problems whatsoever.

The other thing I liked were the all the vouchers you get for Ad Words, Yahoo Search Marketing and MS Ad Center, $200 total. If you’re just starting in affiliate marketing and looking to do it on the cheap it’s a great deal. Take the $200 in vouchers, Couple that with 3 months free hosting and two included domains and you’re already $230 ahead of the game. By the time it starts costing you anything at all, you can be up and running and making more than enough co pay for it.

Click the more link so see the features that you get with this package. You can always add features later if you decide you need more, but I doubt you will.
